For those looking for an alternative to unlimited data, the AT&T 4GB Plan is AT&T’s capped plan.
The AT&T 4GB plan is AT&T’s capped data plan designed for AT&T network users who don’t mind having a cap on their data – in other words, folks who don’t really use their phone for streaming, hotspot connectivity, or other activities that use a ton of high-speed data.
The AT&T 4GB plan isn’t eligible for any AT&T offers that come with a new phone, so it’s also geared towards users who are happy to hang onto their phone for now.
The AT&T 4GB plan is tied for the carrier’s most competitively priced plan coming in at the same price as the budget unlimited plan option, AT&T Value Plus VL. The AT&T 4GB plan is priced lower than AT&T’s other entry-level unlimited data plan, but that does come at the cost of not having unlimited data. It also means you’re not eligible for device deals. One more thing to note which is true for all AT&T plans is that the advertised price not include taxes and fees which can add somewhere in the ballpark of 10-12% to the overall cost.
The AT&T 4GB plan provides capped, deprioritized data. This means you can only use 4GB of data per month, and your data speed may be reduced during periods of 5G network congestion.
If you’re not a heavy data user, you may not even realize when data speeds are reduced. Most users only feel the slowdown if they’re using their phones for streaming videos, gaming, and other heavy data activities. For that reason, the AT&T 4GB plan is a possible option for individuals who don’t need top-tier speeds and don’t use much cellular data.
AT&T doesn’t include perks like streaming services or additional subscriptions with their service plans at this time.

The AT&T 4GB plan is AT&T’s capped data offering. It is priced identically to its cheapest unlimited plan, AT&T Value Plus VL, with a key difference– 4GB can cover multiple lines, while the AT&T Value Plus VL plan is designed for a single line.
Both the AT&T 4GB plan and AT&T Value Plus VL sit below the other entry-level option: AT&T Unlimited Starter SL. Next up, there's the the mid-level AT&T Unlimited Extra EL plan and the top-of-the-line AT&T Unlimited Premium PL plan, which include benefits like premium data and mobile hotspot access.
The top wireless service carriers all provide a selection of data plans to choose from, but only a handful of providers offer capped plans like the AT&T 4GB plan. With such a wide variety of cell phone plan options from unlimited to capped plans, it can be hard to figure out which plan is right for you.
