No doubt about it—the cell phone world has gone the way of unlimited data. Major carriers like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile have largely diminished or done away with their capped data plans in favor of unlimited ones as they try to meet the demand for no-limit data usage.

That means consumers now have more choices than ever when it comes to unlimited plans. In this article, we’ve tried to whittle down the options to just a few—the best unlimited data family plan, the best unlimited data plan for perks, and the best value unlimited data plan, along with runner-up picks. Read on to learn about the best unlimited data plans right now.

Best Unlimited Plan for Perks

T-Mobile has long specialized in perk-heavy unlimited plans, so it’s no surprise that the carrier’s Go5G Next earns our nod in this category. Go5G Next includes just about everything you’d want in a plan—unlimited premium data, a generous mobile hotspot data allowance, multiple streaming subscriptions, a multitude of international travel perks, and the option to upgrade your phone every year. Plus, it comes backed by T-Mobile’s great coverage, since the carrier wields one of the best 5G networks in America.

Go5G Next unlimited plan features:

  • Unlimited premium data
  • 50GB of LTE/5G mobile hotspot data
  • Netflix Standard With Ads
  • Apple TV+
  • Hulu (With Ads)
  • AAA membership for 12 months
  • Unlimited calling, texting, and data with up to 15GB at 4G LTE speeds in Mexico and Canada
  • Unlimited talk and text to Mexico and Canada from the US
  • 5GB of high-speed data followed by unlimited data at 2G at 2x speeds when you travel to 210+ countries
  • Unlimited texting in 210+ countries
  • Upgrade your phone every year

On their own, Netflix Standard With Ads costs $6.99/month, AppleTV+ costs $9.99/month, and Hulu (With Ads) costs $7.99/month. If you’re already signed up for these, you can simply drop those subscriptions, and get them free through your Go5G Next plan.

Best Unlimited Plan for Perks Runner-Up

Another great perk-friendly unlimited plan option is Verizon’s Unlimited Plus. At $80/month, it not only includes access to Verizon’s fast 5G Ultra Wideband network, but unlimited premium data, a 30GB mobile hotspot data allowance, unlimited talk, text, and data in Mexico and Canada, and unlimited texting to over 200 countries.

But that’s not all! You can supercharge your Unlimited Plus plan with an assortment of perks via Verizon myPlan. Each one costs $10/month, and the range of options includes streaming subscriptions, extra hotspot data, international perks, and more. We’ll explore myPlan in greater detail in the next section.

Best Unlimited Family Plan

Adding lines to your unlimited data plan can lower its cost significantly, allowing you to get high-end plans for far less than you would otherwise pay. If you’re planning on signing up for three or four lines of unlimited, we think Verizon’s Unlimited Ultimate is a great option, earning our pick for the best unlimited family plan.

At $90/month for a single line, Unlimited Ultimate is quite expensive. However, it comes down to $65/month when you add three lines, or just $55/month when you add four. Here’s what it includes:

  • Unlimited premium data
  • Access to Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network
  • 60GB mobile hotspot
  • Talk, text, and 10GB high-speed data in 208+ countries worldwide
  • Unlimited texting from US to 200+ countries

What takes this plan from good to great is the ability for each person on the plan to add on their own perks via Verizon’s myPlan system. Each one costs $10/month to add on, and the list of options include (but are not limited to):

  • YouTube Premium
  • Disney Bundle (Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+)
  • Netflix & Max (With Ads)
  • Apple One (Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+)
  • Additional 100 GB of Mobile Hotspot
  • 3 TravelPass days

The best part of going with Verizon is the security of knowing you’ll have great coverage. Verizon is home to the best 4G network—and one of the top 5G networks—in the country.

Best Unlimited Family Plan Runner-Up

Another worthy unlimited data family plan to consider is AT&T’s Unlimited Premium PL. AT&T’s most expensive—and feature-rich—plan costs $85.99/month for a single line, but comes down in price to $60.99/month for three lines, or $50.99/month when you add four. Here’s what it includes:

  • Unlimited premium data
  • 60GB high-speed mobile hotspot
  • Unlimited talk, text, and data in Mexico and Canada
  • Unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data in 19 Latin American countries
  • Unlimited texting from US to 200+ countries

Plans from AT&T tend to be fairly pricey, but Unlimited Premium PL is a way to join AT&T great network at a lower cost.

Best Value Unlimited Plan

The popularity of unlimited data plans nowadays means you can far more for far less than you could just a few years ago. To wit, AT&T’s Value Plus VL includes unlimited talk, text, and deprioritized data, Mexico and Canada privileges, and access to AT&T’s powerful 5G network—for just $50.99/month for a single line.

Here’s what Value Plus VL includes:

  • Unlimited deprioritized data
  • Unlimited talk, text, and data in Mexico and Canada
  • Unlimited texting from US to 200+ countries
  • 5G access

This plan gets even cheaper as you add multiple lines, coming down to just $30.99/month when you add four. As with Verizon, one of the key advantages of going with AT&T is the great service you’re likely to enjoy: AT&T has some of the fastest and most wide-reaching 4G and 5G coverage around.

Best Value Unlimited Plan Runner-Up

Another great unlimited data plan value from a trusted major carrier is T-Mobile’s Essentials Saver plan.

While Essentials Saver lacks the extra perks and premium data of the carrier’s higher priced offerings, it still gives you access to the carrier’s powerful 5G network. If you can make do with deprioritized data (i.e., are willing to put up with data slowdowns during times of network congestion) and slow 3G hotspot data speeds, Essentials Saver may be exactly what you’re looking for. Here’s what it includes:

  • Unlimited 3G mobile hotspot data allotment
  • Unlimited talk, text, and data at 2G speeds in Mexico and Canada.
  • Unlimited texting in 210+ countries.

Prepaid vs. Postpaid Unlimited Data Plans

In this article, we’ve focused on postpaid unlimited data plans, since they provide the best coverage and the most perks. However, it’s worth noting that there are a variety of smaller prepaid carriers, or MVNOs, that offer unlimited plans as well. Some of these providers include Mint Mobile, Visible, Cox Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, Spectrum Mobile, and Optimum Mobile

Before you go the prepaid plan route, know that the coverage aboard these carriers may not be quite as reliable as what you’d get from Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T. That’s because they rent space from the major carriers, which prioritize their own customers ahead of those on subcarriers. This can translate to slower speeds in times of network congestion.

The Bottom Line

The cell phone carrier market is awash with options when it comes to unlimited data plans. Virtually every prepaid and postpaid carrier in the country offers unlimited data plans, and it can be hard to cut through the noise to pick the best ones.

We’ve tried to do that in this article, as we’ve outlined the best unlimited data plans for families, the best unlimited data plans for perks, and the best unlimited data plans for value.
