What impacts phone prices?

There are many factors that contribute to when and why wireless carriers offer phone deals. Everything from seasonality to the timing of new phone releases can impact the price after promotion.

When is the best time to buy a new phone?

Typically, carriers provide their best phone deals on devices during and immediately after a new phone launch. For example, the latest iPhone series usually coincides with back-to-school season in September. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S series has been released in January/February over the last few years.

Of course, the holiday season is another great time for cell phone offers. Starting in early November, Black Friday phone deals start becoming available and typically continue right through Cyber Monday. Great phone deals can also be found in December, but the discounts tend to be slightly less generous as the end of the year approaches.

Beyond these ballpark timeframes, there’s no set schedule that shoppers can bank on phone prices after promotion being at their lowest or highest. Sometimes discounts coincide with the start or end of a quarter or month. Other times, there’s no obvious rhyme or reason to the timing. That’s what makes our phone price trend pages so helpful.
