iPhone 14 Deals: How to Find The Best One for You
Let’s assume you’ve already decided that iPhone 14 is the phone for you - it meets your battery life, storage, and camera requirements - the works.
While the iPhone 14 has a retail price of $799, chances are you won’t have to pay that. Industry players such as wireless carriers, OEMs, or retailers offer deals allowing you to get the phone for free. What could be better than that?
BUT, the stars and the moon will have to align. There are a lot of conditions, and not everyone is eligible for that deal - not by a long shot. The details matter... Some things to consider:
1. How old is your existing smartphone, and are you willing to trade it in?
2. Are you willing to switch carriers for the best deal?
3. Are you on a high-end unlimited plan, or are you willing to upgrade to one?
4. Do you need another line? Are you willing to add it?
5. Are you in the market for an Apple Watch or an iPad? If you are, are you willing to add a new line or service plan if you can get one as part of the promotion?
Your answers will dramatically affect the price you might pay for the iPhone 14. There’s a lot to consider. Let’s unpack this further:
Are you willing to trade in your Current Device? How old is your existing device and what kind of condition is it in?
Most of the time, the carriers, Apple and even Best Buy, will give you the best deals if you are willing to trade in your current smartphone. But not all trade-in values are the same. For one, the newer your trade-in device, the better the deal the carrier will offer you. Like buying a new car, you get a discount on the new car when you trade in your old car, and that discount will depend on what kind of car you have, its age, and its condition. Carriers are usually willing to give you the best deals on the iPhone 14 if you are trading in, say, an iPhone 12; if you have an iPhone 7 to trade in, the deals you’d qualify for would be much less lucrative. The phone will often need to be in good condition to get the maximum trade-in value, but normal wear and tear are assumed in their trade-in pricing.
What carrier do you have now, and are you willing to switch carriers?
Verizon and T-Mobile generally offer their best iPhone 14 deals for people willing to switch to them. AT&T, on the other hand, is currently offering the same terms for new and existing customers.
But just because a carrier might be offering, say, a $200 switch bonus, don’t immediately book a reservation for dinner for two at your favorite restaurant. Sometimes it is in the form of a gift card, for example. You can pay your phone bill or buy an accessory, which is excellent, but maybe not the evening out you hoped for.
Lines and plans matter: how many and what type!
The very best deals often require you to add a new line and/or add a premium monthly service plan. Here’s one where the stars and the moon need to align for you to get the best deal. You really can get the iPhone 14 for “free” from more than one provider in the marketplace, but it comes with an important catch: you need to add a new line.
Additionally, carriers give you the best deal if you are willing to purchase a more expensive monthly service plan, or maybe you’re already on one, in which case, it doesn’t matter.
Time to do some simple math. Let’s say you are NOT on the premium monthly service plan. Typically, the step up in cost from going from a “cheaper plan” to a “premium plan” is $10 per month. So if the carrier offers you $800 off the iPhone 14 spread over 36 months, and the carrier requires you to buy a premium plan, then the discount on your new iPhone is more like $540. Unless you did need the premium plan and were going to buy it anyway, if that’s the case, it is an $800 value.
Adding a line works the same way. For example, if you have a family member ready to get their first mobile phone, the requirement to add a line doesn’t matter - you are going to do it anyway! But if not, do you need that extra line?
Whatever deal you get, you need to stay around to get the total value of the promotions
Let’s say the solar system is perfectly aligned, and the carrier will give you $800 off the iPhone 14. Don’t expect them to Venmo you the money. They require you to remain a customer over 24-36 months, and they spread the discount over that period, making it a de facto contract.
A little more math:
You settle on the promotion that works best for your situation, and a carrier is providing a $450 credit on the list price ($799) for the iPhone 14. So the price to you is $349.
They will spread that cost over 24 months, so the monthly cost is $14.51 plus your service plan, which can range from $65-90, depending on the plan you select or had to select to get the promotional deal. (If you have more than one line on the account, this per-line charge is typically much lower.)
If you decide to leave the carrier before the 24 months are over, you have to pay back the balance due.
One more piece of math to illustrate. You decide to go to another carrier after 12 months. You got a better deal, or you are joining the family plan of a loved one. Because you are leaving before the term ends, you will pay the balance of the discount - $174.12 - to your current provider. Carriers love “loyal” customers - they try to make it hard to break up.
Need a new iPad?
Sometimes carriers are willing to bundle in discounts on an Apple Watch or iPad by purchasing a new iPhone 14. Maybe you don’t want to trade in your old phone, but you need a new iPad - there might be a deal for you!
But again - pay attention to the details. Sometimes the iPad that is discounted is different from the latest generation, and often the promotion requires adding a line. Believe it or not, there are as many as 10,000 unique deals on the iPhone 14, which combine all the factors we mentioned above.

iPhone 14 Deal Summary
There are some fantastic deals available in the marketplace, especially when you are trading in a more recent Apple model. Sometimes, you can get more value than the retail cost of the iPhone 14! Even if switching from Samsung Galaxy to an iPhone 14, you can get up to $800 off - the total retail price.
Two things to remember: the age of your trade-in matters, and the range of the discount you might be eligible to receive is extensive.
As an example, if you are trading in an iPhone 8, the minimum trade-in value you are getting is $100, and the maximum is $400, while if you are trading in an iPhone 13 Pro Max, the minimum value you are getting is $220, and the maximum is $800!
What determines the range?
- What carrier do you have now, and are you willing to switch?
- Are you willing to add a line?
- Are you willing to upgrade to a premium plan?

More on the iPhone 14
2022 brought us the newest iPads, Apple Watches, and iPhone models. The base model phone, the iPhone 14, comes with various upgrades over the last iteration of the famous phone line. Apple phones remain the most popular mobile devices in the United States, and even without choosing the pro model or the iPhone 14 Pro Max, this new device is sure to excite new and returning Apple users.
The iPhone 14 is one of the most technically impressive phones on the market, with an impressive Always-On display, camera, and performance options.
Many great deals are going around for people who want to get their hands on a new iPhone 14. Here is a rundown of the device so you can decide if you are ready to make it your next phone.
What Are the iPhone 14 Specs and Features?
The iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch all-screen OLED display with a 2532 by 1170 pixel resolution, which supplements the Super Retina XDR display. It has a true tone HDR display with haptic touch and 800 nits max brightness.
The material consists of a ceramic front shield with aluminum and glass throughout. This base model comes in Midnight, Purple, Starlight, Red, and Blue.
The phone has a photonic engine with a primary 12MP main camera system, telephoto and Ultra-Wide cameras, and an enlarged sensor compared with the iPhone 13 Pro, allowing more light to come in, which lets you get better shots in dark areas.
This feature is known as low-light or night mode, depending on your specific settings. There is also a 12MP ultrawide five-element lens and a TrueDepth front camera with impressive autofocus features that enables selfies and FaceID.
These tie into the cinematic mode that began with the iPhone 13, allowing for enhanced video capabilities with a user-friendly interface. The video system can record up to 4K video. It also has a night mode, action mode, and a variety of other video settings to play around with, including video playback zoom functionality.
The battery is 3,297mAh, a modest battery size for a premium phone. It can last over nine hours with regular use, and it is compatible with fast-charge USB-C cords and chargers with 20W or higher adapters if you can get your hands on one. Of course, like recent iPhones and the inevitable iPhone 15 next year, the 14 features wireless charging and compatibility with MagSafe accessories.
The iPhone 14 also launches with iOS 16, with some upgrades. You can customize your display with widgets, edit text messages, and upgrade your camera app. The Dynamic Island hovering at the top of the screen is one of these features, which you can find out more about on Apple.com.
A lot of the technical upgrades are possible because of the A15 Bionic chip that was introduced with the iPhone 13. This is one of the most powerful processors in mobile phones, with a 5-core GPU, and this chip alone makes the iPhone 14 one of the most impressive phones out there. While the Pro model comes with an A16 Bionic, the performance on the base model is still incredible, with LTE and Bluetooth connectivity.
The iPhone 14 also comes with dual eSIM, as iPhone 14 models are not compatible with physical SIM cards.
What Are Some iPhone 14 Pros and Cons?
The iPhone is technically impressive, with arguably the best processor on the mainstream market and a great display and camera set. Since it is an Apple phone, you can get reliable and consistent support for years to come.
Unfortunately, all of this comes with one glaring flaw: the iPhone 14 is not significantly different from the iPhone 13. The iPhone 13 already had the cinematic mode, 12MP cameras, and the A15 chip.
The hardware/software gap between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 is much more significant than between the 13 and 14.
This is all on top of the fact that the new iPhone 14 is $799. This is under a thousand dollars, so it is not in the highest mobile phone prices, but it is not a budget phone either. Phones like the Google Pixel 6 might be more attractive to buyers because they are so much cheaper at $599; $300 cheaper.
It also pales compared to its siblings in the iPhone 14 line; the iPhone 14 Pro, Plus, and Pro Max. These models have improved display, battery life, cameras, and overall power.
Given that the base model can already be considered pricey, it’s only a small jump to pick up one of the other models for a significant technical upgrade.
What Is the iPhone 14 Price?
The iPhone 14 is priced at $799, which is typical for new Apple phones. This is a middle to upper-tier phone when it comes to pricing.
It is not in the $200 range of some ultra-budget phones, but it is outside the four-digit range too. This makes it the least expensive of the iPhone 14 models since the Mini was discontinued.
Bottom Line
The iPhone 14 is impressive, but consider your preferences before picking it up. It is very advanced and not too expensive, but other options may give you more bang for your buck, both with Apple and other companies.
T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T all have a variety of deals that involves signing up for a new plan and engaging with their trade-in programs. These can lead to significant discounts on an iPhone 14, and some companies even have deals that can net you one for free.
