As anyone who lives there knows, Indiana is a very flat state. That’s good news for cell phone coverage, since there’s a minimum of natural barriers to getting a good signal.
The three majors dominate the coverage landscape in Indiana: AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile have all built out impressively wide-ranging 4G and 5G networks in the state. By the numbers, Verizon delivers the most 4G coverage (its network spans an incredible 97% of Indiana’s total land area), while AT&T offers the most 5G coverage (74%).

Verizon started building out its network in Indiana very early in the history of cellular technology, and it’s only gotten more ubiquitous through the years. At present, the carrier offers the most 4G LTE coverage in the state, and a small but growing 5G network.
Verizon 4G Coverage in Indiana
Verizon delivers the most 4G coverage in Indiana, blanketing an amazing 97% of it with its network. Translation: if you have Verizon, you’ll be able to get a signal pretty much anywhere you go, from the shores of Lake Michigan in the north to the Kentucky border in the south, and everywhere in between.
Verizon 5G Coverage in Indiana
Verizon’s 5G network covers 28% of Indiana, trailing both AT&T (73%) and T-Mobile (65%). While this may not sound like much, note that all of Indiana’s major towns and cities are covered by Verizon 5G, including Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend, and Bloomington.
Also, Verizon may in fact offer the fastest 5G speeds where you live. That’s because much of Verizon’s 5G network is made up of its enhanced 5G Ultra-Wideband network, which delivers super-fast speeds and low latency times.
AT&T offers the most combined 4G and 5G coverage in Indiana, as both of its networks blanket the majority of the state.
AT&T 4G Coverage in Indiana
AT&T delivers the second-most 4G coverage in Indiana, with its network spreading to an impressive 95% of the state (just a tiny bit less than Verizon). Rest assured that you’re likely to have an AT&T 4G signal almost regardless of where you go in Indiana.
AT&T 5G Coverage in Indiana
AT&T offers far and away the most 5G coverage in Indiana, with 74% of the state’s 35,867 square miles covered. This is good news if you’re signed up with AT&T, since 5G delivers the fastest cellular speeds.
Plus, a good portion of AT&T’s 5G coverage is made up of its enhanced5G+ spectrum, which delivers even faster speeds, lower latency times, and better reliability.
While T-Mobile doesn’t win the coverage statistics battle with competitors AT&T and Verizon in Indiana, the carrier nonetheless delivers excellent overall 4G and 5G signal availability in the state.
T-Mobile 4G Coverage in Indiana
T-Mobile’s 4G network covers an excellent 76% of Indiana, less than both Verizon (97%) and AT&T (95%). However, T-Mobile’s 4G is present in all of the state’s foremost cities and towns; if you live in one of these areas, rest assured that you should have no problem connecting to T-Mobile.
T-Mobile 5G Coverage in Indiana
T-Mobile offers great 5G coverage in Indiana, as its network covers 65% of the state. Much of this 5G coverage includes the carrier’s 5G Ultra Capacity spectrum, which offers super-fast speeds and superior reliability.

When it comes to cell phone coverage, you don’t just need a cellular signal—you need that signal to provide adequate speed. That’s why it’s important to distinguish between 4G and 5G coverage in your area. In general, 5G provides faster speeds and greater reliability than 4G. However, that’s not always the case, as there may be instances when the speeds of these respective coverage types are actually quite similar.
How to Get the Best Cell Phone Coverage
There’s more to getting the best coverage than just signing up with the carrier that offers reliable service in the places you spend time. These include:
- Your phone: The newer and more cutting edge your device, the more likely you’ll be able to tap into the fastest speeds. Some older phones don’t have the built-in technology to connect to the fastest 5G bands, resulting in slower service. The newest 5G devices, like the Apple iPhone 16 or Samsung Galaxy S24 series don’t have this problem.
- Your software: It’s important to make sure your software is up to date, as an out-of-date operating system can translate to an inability to connect to the fastest network speeds.
- Your cell phone plan: Depending on the mobile plan you have, your data may experience deprioritization during times of network congestion. If this is consistently happening to you, it may be worth investigating whether you can sign up for a plan that includes more premium (i.e. un-deprioritized) data.
- Your location: Certain types of coverage, like high-band 5G, has difficulty penetrating solid materials, like concrete walls. As simple as it may sound, moving to an unobstructed location may help you connect to these fast networks more reliably.
