What Is Spectrum Mobile Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)?
Many of us are attached to our smartphones, having made the perfect home screen with the perfect apps, and bought the perfect case and screen protector. If you have chosen to switch to Spectrum Mobile and have a smartphone near and dear to your heart, you do not need to give up your trusty device. In fact, you will save money by bringing your own.
With Spectrum Mobile’s BYOD feature, you can bring in a compatible device and receive a free sim card. There are no new equipment payments, meaning you save money by not having to purchase a new phone, and you can keep your current phone number, saving you the hassle of needing to remember a new one.
Your device must operate with the most up-to-date software, though. Spectrum Mobile currently supports Apple, Samsung, and Google phones. If you have purchased an LG phone from Spectrum Mobile in the past, that is compatible too.
Every Spectrum Mobile plan allows you to bring your own device.
How Does BYOD Work?
Here’s how BYOD works:
- Check your device’s compatibility by inputting your device ID, or International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), into this website. To find your device’s IMEI, select “Settings,” “General,” and “About,” then scroll down to the IMEI, ESN, or MEID ID. If your device is any of the devices listed above, you probably don’t need to perform this step.
- Devices need to be unlocked before they are activated; this means you need to contact your current wireless provider to unlock your device from their network. Your device must be paid off. Then, make sure you have the newest software update on your device.
- Back up your device on a computer, just in case.
- Now you have two choices: Select a SIM Card Kit on the Spectrum website and put it in your cart, or select eSim activation, which means, with certain devices that are eSIM-enabled, you can instantly activate a Spectrum Mobile line. If this sounds confusing, you can also visit a Spectrum Mobile store for help.
- Finally, you need to activate your account, transfer your phone number, and, if need be, install the sim card.
What Plans Does Spectrum Offer?
Spectrum offers two main types of phone plans, including Unlimited and By the Gig.
Unlimited
Unlimited cell phone plans come with unlimited talk, text, and data, with speeds being reduced after using your allocation of premium data. Check out our website to find out more about Spectrum Mobile Unlimited Plans.
By the Gig
With By the Gig plans, customers only pay for a certain amount of data that can be shared between up to 10 lines. There is also an option to switch to an unlimited plan, at any point, for more data.
Whatever the plan, if you are considering Spectrum Mobile, you are going to need a cell phone that is compatible with the service. Read on to see your options.
