Best Verizon Cell Phone Plans Compared
Verizon Wireless is the country’s biggest carrier, boasting millions of subscribers, powerful nationwide coverage, a wide selection of phones, prepaid and postpaid cell phone plan options, and a bevy of perks.
Verizon has streamlined its selection of postpaid plans down to three: Unlimited Welcome ($65/month), Unlimited Plus ($80/month), and Unlimited Ultimate ($90). With Verizon’s myPlan program, you can add perks on to any of these plans for an additional $10/month.
In this article, we’ll detail our favorite Verizon plans, including the best overall Verizon plan, the best Verizon family plan, and the best affordable Verizon plan. Read on for our picks.

Best Overall Verizon Plan
Our choice for the best overall Verizon plan is Unlimited Plus. At $80/month, this plan includes some excellent features: access to Verizon’s fast 5G Ultra Wideband network coverage, unlimited premium data, a 30GB mobile hotspot data allowance, unlimited talk, text, and data in Mexico and Canada, and unlimited texting to over 200 countries.
If you want to supercharge your plan with additional perks, you choose from a wide selection of them via Verizon myPlan. At $10/month, they’re cheaper than they would be if you bought them separately. They include:
- YouTube Premium
- Disney Bundle (Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+)
- Netflix & Max (With Ads)
- Apple One (Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+)
- Walmart+ membership
- Apple Music Family
- Additional 100 GB of Mobile Hotspot
- $15 monthly credit for +play subscriptions like Netflix, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Max, Paramount+, and Master Class
- Additional 2TB of cloud storage
- 3 TravelPass days
All of which is to say, the Unlimited Plus plan is a well-rounded option from the nation’s biggest cell phone carrier. It’s hard to imagine anyone being underwhelmed by the plan.
Best Verizon Family Plan
Looking to bring your family—or immediate friend group—onto one plan? This is a tried-and-true way to save money, as each additional line from Verizon (and pretty much any carrier) can bring the cost per line down significantly.
Verizon, like AT&T, allows you to mix-and-match the plans on your account, so theoretically each member of your family can be on a different plan. However, if you want to keep things simple and stick with one plan throughout, we think the carrier’s premium Unlimited Ultimate is a great option.
At $90/month for one line, this plan is quite expensive on its own. However, as you add lines, that cost drops, all the way down to just $55/month if you add four lines. That’s a pretty great deal for a plan that includes:
- Unlimited premium data
- Access to Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network
- 60GB mobile hotspot
- Talk, text, and 10GB high-speed data in 208+ countries worldwide
- Unlimited texting from US to 200+ countries
As with all of Verizon’s postpaid unlimited plans, you can add-on a number of streaming services and other extras for an additional $10/month. In this way, each person in your family or friend group can customize his or her individual plan to their liking.
Best Affordable Verizon Plan
Calling any postpaid Verizon plan “affordable” might be considered something of a misnomer, since none of them are exactly cheap. However, if you’re looking for a less expensive way to jump aboard Verizon’s great network, we recommend going with Unlimited Welcome.
At $65/month for one line, this unlimited plan is more of a stripped back offering than the previously discussed Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Ultimate. For example, Unlimited Welcome doesn’t include a mobile hotspot allowance, all of the data is of the deprioritized variety (meaning you may experience slower speeds during times of network congestion), and the plan lacks international perks.
That said, you can add on these elements via the a la carte myPlan system. If, for example, you want hotspot functionality to power your laptop’s internet connection when you’re away from WiFi, you can add 100GB of hotspot data to your plan for a reasonable $10/month.
Really, the true upside of going with Unlimited Welcome—beyond the cost savings compared to Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Ultimate—is the access it provides to Verizon’s far-reaching and reliable 4G and 5G coverage.
What About Verizon Prepaid Plans?
While we’ve focused on Verizon’s postpaid offerings so far, it’s important to note that the carrier sells prepaid plans as well.
These consist of three options: the $60/month Unlimited Plus, the $50/month Unlimited, and the $35/month 15GB. All three of the prepaid plans include access to Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband coverage, talk, text, and data in Mexico and Canada, and unlimited texting to over 200 countries. If you’re interested in switching to Verizon, want to avoid a credit check, and are more comfortable paying for your cell phone service ahead of time each month, these plan options are worth considering.
If you’re seeking Verizon coverage and are willing to venture further afield, there are a handful of prepaid carriers that offer discount plans aboard the Verizon network. One such carrier is Cox Mobile—check out our Cox Mobile vs. Verizon article for a comparison.
Verizon Phones
Need a phone to go along with your Verizon plan? Rest assured, the carrier sells all of the top models, including Samsung Galaxy devices, Apple iPhones, and Google Pixels.
What’s more, the carrier frequently runs promotions that can help you score these devices at steep discounts. Verizon’s cell phone deals typically require you to trade in an eligible device and sign up for a specified unlimited data plan. Discounts are then applied in the form of bill credits across 36 months. Some of Verizon’s recent promotions have included deals on the iPhone 15, the Samsung Galaxy S24, and the Google Pixel 8. Side note: Verizon also sells a variety of other types of devices like smartwatches and tablets.
Why Choose Verizon?
There are a number of reasons to consider going with Verizon over the likes of AT&T and T-Mobile—not to mention the variety of prepaid carriers out there—and we’ve outlined a few below.
Verizon Coverage
Verizon’s powerful 4G and 5G networks effectively blanket the United States, so no matter where you are, you’re likely to enjoy excellent mobile service. Plus, going with Verizon over a subcarrier like Cox Mobile that rents space on the Verizon network means you’ll get priority delivery of this coverage.
Verizon boasts the broadest 4G LTE in the country, besting the likes of AT&T and T-Mobile. The carrier’s 5G network, on the other hand, is slightly less built out—but that’s quickly changing. Verizon is aggressively expanding its 5G footprint, so we can expect its already fast Ultra Wideband coverage to increase in reach over the coming months and years.
Verizon Mix-and-Match Options
Verizon was the first major carrier to allow customers to choose individual plans for each line—i.e. “mix-and-match.” Verizon recently took this concept a step further, allowing each customer on a multiline plan to choose his or own set of perks as part of the myPlan system. This is something no other major carrier—or smaller carrier for that matter—offers.
Verizon myPlan Perks
While some may bemoan the fact that Verizon has broken out perks that used to be included with unlimited plans and made new customers pay extra for them via myPlan, the sheer scale of perks you can choose from is impressive. From international data privileges to streaming subscriptions to hotspot data, myPlan really allows Verizon customers to customize their plans with exactly what they want.
The Bottom Line
As one of the country’s three major mobile providers (along with AT&T and T-Mobile), Verizon offers a tidy selection of wireless plans that come backed by powerful national 4G and 5G coverage.
Our favorite overall Verizon plan is Unlimited Plus at $80/month for one line, since it delivers most of what you’d typically want from a Verizon plan. Our favorite Verizon family plan is Unlimited Ultimate, which costs $55/month for four lines. Lastly, we think the best affordable option from Verizon is the $65/month (for a single line) Unlimited Welcome. It’s hard to go wrong with any of these plans, especially when you can customize them with perks via Verizon’s myPlan program.
